The Emerging Semantic Web (Frontiers in Artificial Intelligence and Applications, 75) (Frontiers in Artificial Intelligence and Applications, 75)

The World Wide Web has been the main source of an important shift in the way people get information and order services. However, the current Web is aimed at people only. The Semantic Web is a Web defined and linked in a way that it can be used by machines not just for display purposes, but also for automation, integration and reuse of data across various applications. Facilities and technologies to put machine understandable data on the Web are rapidly becoming a high priority for many communities. In order for computers to provide more help to people, the Semantic Web augments the current Web with formalized knowledge and data that can be processed by computers. It thus needs a language for expressing knowledge. This knowledge is used to describe the content of information sources, through ontologies, and the condition of operation of Web services. One of the challenges of the current Semantic Web development is the design of a framework that allows these resources to interoperate. This book presents the state of the art in the development of the principles and technologies that will allow for the Semantic Web to become a reality. It contains revised versions of a selection of papers presented at the International Semantic Web Working Symposium that address the issues of languages, ontology s, services, and interoperability. Customer Review: Training and knowledge base in one book
I used this book to update my skills. The course on CD and the book are even better than the official BO courses from SAP and costs only a fraction of the official course.
Customer Review: Perfect book for beginners
This is a great book by Mr. Schmidt to start with WebI. It helped me a lot to understand many topics which are not even covered in official BO WebI class. Nicely written.
However I would encourage Mr. Schmidt to include exercise and more examples on advanced topics on formula, variables and context. I have already bought other 2 books of Mr. Schmidt for Universe design and Desktop Intelligence and hoping the same outcome. Buy Now!

Customer Review: broader scope than designing a website
Web engineering is still a vague concept to most. The medium is little more than 10 years old, and characterised by continual changes. Yet ambitiously, Suh tries to offer a coherent understanding of how to use the Web. Not from the point of the end user, though this is surely important and cannot be ignored. But rather from the vantage of a designer or developer.
